Hollywood Rose
Hollywood Rose were an American hard rock group formed in 1983 (initially with the name A.X.L.) by Axl Rose, Izzy Stradlin and Chris Weber. They recorded a 5 song demo, with drummer Johnny Kreis, and added bassist Rick Mars, who was then replaced by Steve Darrow.
After Chris Weber was fired from the group, then Road Crew guitarist Slash and drummer Steven Adler were brought into the group. At this point, apparently due to the firing of Weber, Izzy Stradlin left the group to join London (a group which coincidently featured both Slash and Adler). The group eventually disbanded in 1985.
Axl Rose decided to form a new group with L.A. Guns guitarist Tracii Guns, bring in Hollywood Rose guitarist Izzy Stradlin as well as L.A. Guns bassist Ole Beich and drummer Rob Gardner. The group was named Guns N' Roses (combining the names of L.A. Guns and Hollywood Rose) but Tracii Guns soon departed the band, replaced by Slash, along with Beich and Gardner who were replaced by Duff McKagan and Steven Adler.
Chris Weber, who went on to form the moderately successful post-grunge group U.P.O. in 1997, sold the original 5 song demo to Cleopatra Records who then released them as a CD titled The Roots of Guns N' Roses in 2004, which featured, along with the original 5 songs, remixes by guitarist Gilby Clarke (Guns N' Roses) and Fred Coury (Cinderella, London) who filled in for Steven Adler for a few GN'R shows. The CD also featured Tracii Guns, who provided guitar overdubs on some of the Gilby Clarke remixes. Read more on Last.fm.
